I suppose I should mention my best friend/roommate/hapless patsy, Chirs Wiehe (or as I call him Weasel). Currently we live together in Weld hall. He will make many appearances in my pictures when I need someone to stand somewhere epic or pose abstractly. He looks very tepid here because its a straight portrait. He doesn’t like pictures, he puts up with mine because we have a long fuckin history.
So luminousbeams took this trippy picture after I took a few playful jabs at the old one and it was decided it looked like one of them meme faces. Thusly, Optimism Girl was brought onto the web. My medium is Paint(Same thing I use to crop my shitty photos).
These past two days held much for me. Moving in, wandering around, meeting some people, moving my best friend in, bike bound wandering, some sleep, still more wandering, collecting large cardboard tubes, and now blogging. Its been a chaotic whirlwind of activity punctuated with periods of downtime where I’m too bogged to actually write.
Some of my favorite expiriences from my first forrays into the wilds (another title drop, I’m getting good at those) of the world of college include meeting Sarah Something-Or-Other at the RA movie event, nighttime biking, wandering through some various paths that Weasel knows, the hole in the wall chinese place, and having the RA already know my name at the floor meeting. I have some pride in what I’ve done already.
The RA movie event started as an attempt to organize the various dorm floors around here to go see a movie on the green. It was the latest Pirates of the Carribeian. It kinda sucked. At first, it was just the RA’s and me and then one showed up with another resident. This was Sarah Something-Or-Other. Shes a performance major who plays the chello. Pretty spiffy eh?
Well, as stated earlier, it was not a good movie. All the residents who showed up with an RA on our way to the college green left and so did over half of the other RA’s, leaving Sarah, a few upper classmen, and me. We ended up going to one of the upper class rooms and watching Liam Neeson kill every major criminal in france from least to greatest in an attempt to save his daughter from life as a sex slave. Taken was a good movie!
Peking Express, its a tiny little place in the back of an abandoned Kinkos multi store facility. Weasel and I went there to get some noms and picked up a thing of lo mein, peanut butter chicken, and sweet and sour chicken/sauce. It was the best chinese I’ve ever had and all for under $5.
I know this was disjointed, not well written, and probably not what you were expecting with a title like Into The Wilds, but thats whats been going on during my first few steps into college life. Photos to follow upon me being more awake.
This is my ride, my wheels, my steed, my other car thats a bike, my bike! I spent most of today fixing up my old mountain bike to get it sturdy enough to ride far and wide around OU, Athens, and Nelsonville. I have two others (A road bike and a BMX) but concerns have been raised about theft and weather, so I’m left with this as my option. Not that I’m complaining, I need a bike and this way I’ll be able to ride paths and such with Weasel. Should be a fun year. Things are about to get interesting.
This pile of assorted stuff?? This is all the stuff that’s comoing with me to college. Its a surreal feeling to have to pick and choose what you need, what you want, and what’s completely unnecessary.Theres plenty that I need in that room. Theres much that I want. And still there’s plenty that I really don’t need. All of it confined to a single room. Guess its good because I have about half a room to populate with it. My friend and roommate Weasel will fill the other half. A picture of him will come later till then…. I dunno, enjoy your time on and off the web.
So for my first post I figured I’d lead off with a picture of myself at the beginning. I call where I am right now the beginning because tonight is the night before I leave for college. I move into my dorm at Ohio University tomorrow. Its the beginning because its the start of a new chapter for me, I finally get a chance to start over new, in a new town, in a whole new world. I figured its worth documentation. So this is it, my blog, where I’ll document the way to wander. (Didja see what I did there? I name dropped in my first post. What, too cheesey?? Yeah probably…)
